Tolman became famous in 2014, when Tolman was a part of the FX show Fargo. Fargo is a film starring experienced actors Billy Bob Thornton Martin Freeman Bob Odenkirk. The movie was based on the Coen brothers' 1996 film with the exact same name. Tolman received praise for her portrayal of Minnesota the policeman Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair reported the character of Tolman, "calmly" and "assuredly" was the star of the show. Critics' Choice Television Award, Best Supporting Actress (Movie/Miniseries) as well as Golden Globe nominations were given to Tolman for her performance. Tolman's guest role in The Mindy Project, playing romantic novelist Abby Berman for two episodes and was revealed the same day.
